Harvest Moon PSP

A NEW Harvest Moon is being developed for the Sony PSP. I am not sure what happened to the other Harvest Moon title that we posted a while back. Anyways, this one (complete with screen shots) looks a little different from the previous titles. The game seems have the overhead view and a 3rd person view like in "A Wonderful Life" and older versions of the game. The last few screenshots looks like your character will get a four-wheeler type of ATV, which would be the first vehicle of it's kind in the series. Not much else is known right now. I am hoping for a USA release and will post as more game info is released.

PSP Downgrader released!

Whew... Sorry for the lack of posts. I have been house sitting for a few days and besides that, I have been lazy.

Anyways to the good news!! The group MPH has released a WORKING PSP downgrader. I have verified and tried this myself and yes, it DOES work. I feel sorry to the people who donated to WAB and PSP-DEV for a product that was never released (and may not have even existed, we may never know).

I have tested the install by loading up the NesterJ emulator and it loads up just fine. It has also been reported that you can update back to firmware 2.0 if you want to (I have not tested this myself). Which will come in handy since apps are starting to come out for the 2.0 exploit.

Score: +1 for hackers. Sony: -1

Steps to use the MPH downgrader:
- Create an UPDATE folder in the /PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in /PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder
- Unpack MPHDowngrader.zip
- Copy overflow.tif in your PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick (make sure you have changed your background to frame_buffer.png as explained in the toc2rta exploit.)
- Copy h.bin in root of your memory stick
- Copy index.dat in root of your memory stick
- Plug the AC adaptor
- Goto the photos and find the added image. You will see garbage, wait 30 seconds and reset the psp.
- Goto game on memory card, load 1.5 update and let install.
- At 99% it gives an error, reboot. You get some screen, it reboots.
- Done!

Havest Moon PSP

Harvest Moon on the PSP!! Good right? Well, it may not be as great as I had hoped. It appears that the PSP version will be a port from the PSOne "Harvest Moon: Back to Nature" & "Harvest Moon: For Girls". At this point it doesn't seem all that bad, but wait... it gets better (or worse). It doesn't seem that there will be any improvements to the game AND it will play in a window (a frame, like the Super GameBoy) and have grass surrounding to fill in the space (see pic below).

When I originally heard about Harvest Moon coming to the PSP I was hoping it would be a new addition to the series, but it seems like Marvelous Interactive got lazy not only by porting an exitising game, but also by making it play in a small window that doesn't take advantage of the PSPs wide screen.

urgh... and I was excited when I first saw Harvest Moon for PSP.... Now? Not so excited...

PSP Firmware Downgrader for ALL PSPs!

WAB is the greatest, not only have they been able to downgrade versions 1.5x to 1.50, they were able to downgrade v. 2.0. As of right now, they do not have a release date for the downgrader due to testing purposes (don't want to brick any PSPs). I have provided the post on WABs website and a link to the video they have supplied of their progress. I will be sure to post when this excellent piece of programming is released and let you know if downgrading my 2.0 was a success or turned it into a paper weight.

It's not the final release of the awesome WAB downgrader, but it's the next best thing - a clear video clip of the 1.5x and 2.0 (Yes 2.0!) PSP firmware downgrader in action from WAB and PSP-Dev. Not only have we found a way to downgrade 1.5x firmware but now 2.0 firmwares also qualify for a downgrade! Incase you are un-aware PSP-Dev and WAB are two European PSP Development teams who will be releasing this superb downgrader, which will allow the running of homebrew code on ALL PSP's.

Ry

Here is a pretty cool program for you Mac users with a PSP. Ry sets up a server on your Mac that will let you control iTunes and DVD, as well as read your email and look at your clock. It is still in early development but I have a feeling this will go far.

I remember a while back I made something similar for my Xbox. I used XBMC's webserver and my PSP with a custom webpage to control everything in XBMC. It was pretty nice to use my PSP to watch videos and listen to music on my Xbox.

But If you have a Mac and own a PSP, check it out.

ScummVM

Quote:

ScummVM lets you run these adventures: Adventure Soft's Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution's Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system. SCUMM is used for many games, including Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. Compatibility with supported games is continually improving, so check back often.

Installation:
- Add games to your memory stick, add them anywhere it doesn't matter
- Install under \PSP\GAME\SCUMMVM\
- Create a SAVE folder under the folder
- Run ScummVM and use the launcher to add games and run them

I can't wait to get this installed. I haven't play Sam & Max for a long time and now is a good time to play it on my PSP.

More PSP Goodness

Today is the day I've been waiting for in over a week. PsP-Dev and Killer-X have combined their powers to create KXploit, the non-swapping, fingernail saving method for running homebrew applications. Turns out this method was possible all along, simply put a '%' at the end of the MS1 folder for the homebrew app or emulator and place it in the same spot as the MS2 folder would be. Although a simple fix, this method still poses one annoyance to me; for every executable EBOOT icon, there will also be a "Corrupt File" icon. I'm sure PsP-Dev is still working the kinks out of this exploit so expect to see more from them.

Grab the KXploit files here.

My Guess Was Right

I told Ryo that the swap method for the PSP hack would be replaced by a single one card method within a week of the initial launch. It was announced today that the same group, PSP-DEV, will be releasing a one card, no swap, glorified way to run homebrew on the PSP.

Several days ago we released the swaploit (15-Jun) , some of the sceners got satisfied but some of you tell us to do it better. Today we are proud to announce that in a few days you will get a new hit from Killer-X and PsP-Dev Team...
Release date is tomorrow around 12:00 GMT. Oh it will be a wonderful day!

PSP Backgrounds

This morning I expected to be able to boot up my PSP with the same old ugly purple default background for June, but someone has developed a flashing program that will put your custom backgrounds into your PSP bios. This comes in very handy, especially for those months when the backgrounds aren't so manly, such as June. Here are the rules for the images:

  • The images must be a 24bit bitmat format.
  • It cannot be any larger than 150 k and 300 by 170 pixels.
  • I will be making some custom background images. If you have a request just shoot me an email.
