Wow! It sure has been a long time since I posted anything. For that, you have my humble apologies, and most sincere gratitude for understanding. I have been off playing MMORPGs, and fighting the good fight! Anyway, today I bring to you a movie review for The Covenant. I hope you enjoy it, and I promise to post again very soon.

My buddy Bob and I decided to go see the movie "The Covenant" this afternoon. We went out for a rather gluttonous lunch, arrived at the theater, and after a few technical issues were kicking back for some science fiction delight.

This movie can be summed up with one word: WIATCH. Sit back and relax, Neo. The answers are coming. The movie in a nutshell is about four teenage boys who just happen to be descended from a line of warlocks. Apparently their families came over to America to escape persecution during the 1600s and founded a town called Ipswich. The boys think they are the only four "Sons of Ipswich" left, but to their surprise they find a descendant of the bastard son of a fifth family. Now he is back and wanting one thing: more power.

They have the typical fights amongst friends, some partying, and even a little dance sequence at a bar. The four Sons of Ipswich have grown up together, and might as well be brothers. They are played by Steven Strait (Caleb Danvers), Toby Hemingway (Reid Garwin), Chace Crawford (Tyler Sims), and Taylor Kitsch (Pogue Parry). The villain is played by Sebastian Stan (Chase Collins). There is no real "star" of the movie, at least in the sense that the actors and actresses are relative unknowns to the general populace.

Caleb plays the main role of good guy. He is filthy rich, and just happens to have a love interest in the female lead. It is his job to win the battle or die trying. Reid is your bad boy, who can always be found sporting the same fingerless gloves throughout the whole flick. Pogue is the movie's long-haired eye candy. Tyler? Well, Tyler is just there.

Overall, I really like this movie. Despite some bad writing, and some over acting this is a pretty entertaining movie to go see. The special effects are alright, and the story is fairly original. For the guys you have some lovely actresses in Laura Ramsey and Jessica Lucas. Ladies, don't despair. The gentlemen show some skin too. There are even some tasty snacks for you during a locker room sequence. Don't get too excited, it's PG-13.

The Covenant boasts a decent soundtrack with two scores from Mr. Rob Zombie. There is some good action, and I left the movie theater feeling that my money was well spent. At least it was a matinee. Don't go to the theater expecting a blockbuster, but it should not be a waste of your time either.

It would be easy to have the knee-jerk reaction of hating the movie. The acting and dialogue are sometimes silly at best, and the characters are a bit two dimensional. The main character is the all powerful good guy, while the bad guy is really, really bad. If you go into the movie expecting a little entertainment, and don't mind a few scenes that make you roll your eyes, this movie is alright for you. If not, I would say it is a definite rental.

I give this movie three and one half stars out of a possible five.

Oh, and the whole Wiatch thing? Well, you will have to watch the movie to see what I really mean, but let's just say it is a line that was probably supposed to be intimidating. It went horribly bad.
